Now More Than Ever

A National Hunger Crisis Needs Local Action

Hunger is rising. Funding is shrinking. But your support can change everything.

Across the country, millions of people are going hungry, while over $1 billion in federal food aid has been slashed. Food banks are canceling deliveries. Families are skipping meals. Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) is stepping up to rescue perishable food and deliver it to non-profits in dire need of help.

The Crisis by the Numbers

Food insecurity affects 47.4 million Americans—including 7.2 million children—and has worsened since the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2025, over $1 billion was cut from USDA food assistance programs, leading to the loss of 2.5 million pounds of food deliveries in New York City alone. As food pantries and college campuses face record demand with limited resources, RLC steps in to help, delivering much-needed food directly to these communities.

The New York Times calls the current food cuts an “Existential Crisis.”

Here's How RLC Is Responding to These Current Challenges

RLC has rescued and redistributed over 20 million pounds of food by partnering with more than 270 nonprofits and nearly 300 food donors to ensure surplus food reaches those in need. Every $1 donated helps rescue 10 pounds of food—equivalent to up to 8 meals for individuals facing food insecurity.
